Quality Engineer

Your Role

As a Quality Engineer, you will work with teams across Sepura and external partners in identifying and improving quality of Sepura’s business systems and products using best practice Quality tools and techniques.

The role will require critical thinking, determination and a commitment to supporting the business objectives for continually improvement. The role is within a small, focused team who impact every corner of the Sepura business and customer experience.

The ability to communicate effectively and support others in a dynamic environment is critical as is the ability to add value to all processes. As a Quality Engineer you will be expected to lead improvement activities and will be comfortable making decisions based upon data and having the responsibility for implementing appropriate actions.

Your Day to Day

Our customer base includes many different industries and markets around the world. Our complete TETRA and LTE solutions have been developed specifically for users in multiple sectors to face their critical communications challenges.

There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business. This will operate with teams across the full development lifecycle supporting Product strategy, Product Development, Manufacturing, Product Conformance, Customer Support.

Activities that the role will be responsible for include:

  • Contributing to VOC reviews for product / project requirements, continually evaluating and improving the requirements capture process.
  • Analysing existing product performance data and feed improvement opportunities into new projects for scoping.
  • Participating in project gate reviews thought the development lifecycle, identifying areas of product manufacture that represent risk to quality, cost or supply
  • Improving product development efficiency through the reduction of rework and unplanned development cycles by applying industry best practices.
  • Participate in xFMEA and DFx reviews ensuring that the total process will deliver a product that meets the requirements specifications
  • To measure and ensure process capability meets the product requirements, ensuring engineering focus is applied in the correct areas to improve the overall product quality
  • To own Critical To Quality measurement points, ensuring that the supply chain is capable of producing the parts in line with the quality and capacity requirements
  • To create and monitor Quality Control Plans with our custom component suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis of issues found across the business. To ensure that corrective and preventative actions are put in place.
  • To take responsibility for the quality approval of product and component releases to manufacture and into operational support.
  • To support and mentor other business functions and supply chain in the successful use of Quality toolkit
  • Communicating the successes and failures of quality improvement activities to all stakeholders effectively

This job is expected to involve regular travel as part of supplier management and auditing and the successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence and their own car. Travel expenses will be paid

What you need to succeed

Qualifications

  • Minimum HND in an engineering related subject (Electronics/mechanical/software) or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Certification/accreditation in a recognised quality standard (e.g. IRCA Certified Auditor)

Essential Experience and Skills

  • A strong technical background with experience of applying and developing quality practices in an engineering-based and/or production focused role and facilitating improvements in product designs or the supply chain.
  • Auditor experience and able to confidently conduct audits internally and with suppliers.
  • A track record in applying best practices tools and techniques as part of developing evidence-based root cause analysis into technical and process improvements to deliver corrective and preventative actions.
  • Experience in applying a continuous improvement methodology (e.g. six sigma) and tools for data driven decisions within a product development environment.
  • Proven knowledge of working within quality management frameworks and familiarity with the principles of the latest ISO9001 standard
  • Experience of implementing quality practices that demonstrate the understanding and application of industry best practices and how to apply relevant scalable processes.
  • Strong communication skills and able to communicate with teams at all levels within and outside the organisation.

Desirable Experience and Skills

  • Experience in developing and delivering product designs o production in one or more areas including electronics, manufacturing processes & controls, mechanical, software or services.
  • Interaction and communication with customers in conjunction with support and commercial teams to be able to manage and drive delivery of product quality.
  • Ability to recognise and understand complex interactions between processes within the business to be able to facilitate change.
  • Experience in managing quality of suppliers across a global supply chain.
  • Capable in communicating through a variety of formats with an appreciation of target audience.
  • Able to lead teams with good interpersonal relationship building and coaching skills.
  • Confidence and experience to travel unaccompanied to varied geographical regions and cultures.
  • Develops good working relationships with external 3rd party companies.
