Talk To Us Month & Samaritans Awareness Day

Man with mental health issues wanting to talk to someone and get help

Every July Samaritans charity highlights the power of talking as part of its Talk to Us awareness campaign. Talking to someone who is willing to listen to you when you’re having a difficult time can often bring you comfort and help ease symptoms of loneliness, isolation and anxiety. And with Samaritans Awareness Day on the 24th July, we want to spread the message that Samaritans are here for you to listen, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whatever you are going through, you can call them any time, day or night.

EMPLOYEES' MENTAL HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE

Man comforting her colleague at work who is suffering from poor mental health

In 2022, the CIPD found that poor mental health was the most common cause of long-term sickness absence in UK workplaces, while Mind’s 2021/22 Workplace Wellbeing Index found that 70% of employees have experienced poor mental health in their lives.

Managing and supporting people’s mental health at work is a critical and growing challenge for employers. All organisations, whatever their size, should consider implementing a mental health at work plan that encourages and promotes good mental health for all staff and an open organisational culture. Adopting a proactive approach to mental health and investing in wellbeing initiatives can bring many benefits for organisations in terms of staff engagement, performance and loyalty.
